Fall at Ocoee Farm
There’s something about fall in Southeast Tennessee that feels like a gift we get to unwrap every year. At Ocoee Farm, the small farm about 25 minutes from our home, the changing leaves aren’t just pretty, they’re transformative. The maples, oaks, and hickories are ablaze with reds, oranges, and golds, and the crisp, cool air makes bundling up a joy rather than a chore.
I love the view from Holiday House’s kitchen window. It almost looks like a painting:
This is our happy place. The farm has always been a sanctuary for us, and there’s no season quite like fall to remind us why. We love roaming the fields, wrapped in cozy layers, with our kids laughing as they dart around exploring, and our dog Adeline trotting right alongside us, tail wagging, ears flopping, completely in her element.
The farm is alive in every sense. Over seventy sheep graze across the pastures, and the donkeys peek their curious faces around the trees, never too far behind and always ready for a scratch or a friendly hello. With lambing season just around the corner, there’s an extra layer of excitement in the air. Watching the herd roam and play in this brilliant landscape is one of those simple pleasures that never gets old.
We make it a point to take walks through the farm whenever we can. The kids love visiting the animals, and we love the way fall turns every corner into a postcard-perfect moment.
The crunch of leaves underfoot, the scent of wood smoke from nearby homes, and the glow of late afternoon sunlight filtering through amber leaves; this is our favorite time to be outside, fully present, and completely content.
This is Madge. She’s the oldest sheep in the flock, and she’s a complete sweetheart. She loves head scratches and saying hello whenever we’re out walking.
Here is Caramel, who is also very tame and very sweet.
Marylin was one of Dixie’s bottle babies. She is extremely gentle and loving, and how great are the beautiful markings on her face?
How handsome is Gunner with his horns? Another one of Dixie’s bottle babies.
We love the way the creamy white paint of Holiday House pops against the red and orange foliage behind it.
Ocoee Farm in the fall is more than just scenery; it’s a feeling. It’s the quiet happiness of family togetherness, the joy of watching nature at its most vibrant, and the comfort of knowing this patch of earth is ours to roam, love, and care for. There’s a reason this season always holds a special place in our hearts—it’s when the farm feels the most alive, the most beautiful, and the most ours.
The photos below are from one of our favorite views of the farm. We love when the mountain gets misty and foggy in the mornings, creating the most beautiful, haunting atmosphere. They’re called the Smoky Mountains for a reason!
I hope the fall foliage is just as vibrant, magical, and enchanting wherever you are, too.
