The Windows at Holiday House Are In!!!
More progress!
One of the best feelings in the whole world lately is seeing stuff finally happen at Holiday House. It seems like every single day something new is getting framed or getting installed and it all is starting to just feel so real. Like all of the dreams and plans we have had for this house the last two years aren’t just dreams on paper anymore, they’re actually happening.
And what’s happening this week is the windows are going in! PJ scored these windows over a year ago on Facebook Marketplace and they’ve just been sitting in our storage building waiting to go in. Of course we had to come up with a floor plan and overall layout to Holiday House before we could use them, so now that we’re at that phase of the renovation, the windows could finally be installed.
Now that the windows are installed (in half the house, at least. we still have to install them in the back of the house now that the layout for that section is complete), it changes the entire feel of the house. It actually feels like a house now, now just a big construction site. We have no walls and the electric and plumbing aren’t even close, but just seeing the windows in feels like a huge step forward. A big accomplishment for this little cottage that’s come such a long way.
How nice is the pasture view outside the kitchen? We originally had a square window there on the right to match all the other ones in the kitchen, but after thinking about it more, we knew we needed a door that led to the outside so that we have space for a grill and entertaining area on the back of the house.
We had a solid wood door that, again, PJ found on FB Marketplace last year, that was originally going to live as the front door at Getaway House, and we actually had the crew install it there. It looked SO good, but we ultimately changed our minds (much to the crew’s dismay- oops) and installed another door at Getaway House.
I love the way it looks in the kitchen and how it almost perfectly matches the windows that were bought separately. The raw wood is beautiful and we think we’re going to leave it alone, at least for the time being. We may just put a clear coat on it and call it a day.
I know I already mentioned this, but the kitchen is by far going to be my favorite room in the home. Even with nothing but OSB boards up, it already feels so cozy and warm. All my time is going to be spent in there once it’s complete.
Can you really blame me?
