The Stillness of Home This Time of Year
The light this time of year is always my favorite. It shines, no- pours through our windows with so much gusto you would think it’s alive. It lights up the entire room in warm, golden shades. I noticed it yesterday afternoon while walking from the office to the kitchen and it stopped me in my tracks.
There was a stillness in the house that doesn’t happen often these days. We were all home, but everyone must have been preoccupied because there was barely a sound. Our old house feels like the biggest hug every year during this time and I often find it hard to leave, even to run errands in town.
We’ve lived in both new and old houses, and I have to say, there’s a certain magic to old homes that you just don’t get anywhere else. Have I mentioned lately (this week) how much I love this time of year?
