The Column is Finished!
Keep: When we got home from the gym yesterday morning, we pulled in, looked up, and noticed something different about our carport: The crew had put the top piece back on! The reconstructed column was finished. Minus the painting of the concrete toppers, of course, which we’ll get to in time. They did a great job rebuilding it, though you can see the differences between the column on the right (the new one) and the column on the left (what they both originally looked like).
They had to take each brick down one by one and then pour a new foundation for the wall, and put each brick back. When they did that, it left a bunch of the original mortar all over the bricks, which is why the knee wall and the new column are so much lighter than the original, more red brick. That’s just how it’s going to look from now on, and neither of us mind that much. We’re just happy to have it back and built better and more structurally solid than it was before.
Delete: The washing machine and the dryer didn’t get delivered to Holiday House yesterday like they were supposed to, SO we’re hoping they finally come today. Once they are finally delivered, there’s really nothing stopping us from getting to stay there!
